The Sales Experience Platform That Puts Customers First

Posted: 18 May 2021 12:40 AM PDT

dWeb.News Article from Deanna Ritchie

No one wants a clunky sales experience. Not sales reps. Not clients. Yet far too often, the sales journey includes unfortunate obstacles such as tech demo interfaces that fizzle instead of sizzle.

As one Harvard Business Review article noted, around two-thirds of B2B salespeople are deemed average—at best. Those ratings come straight from customers' mouths. And they're not what any salesperson wants to hear.

What's the underlying pet peeve causing so many customer complaints? There are two, actually. The first is a sales experience that's not customer-centric or personalized. That is, the sale focuses on the product or service and its features, not on the buyer's issues. The second is inconsistency.

When customers can't rely on a dependable sales and service process, they're likely to head out the door for the competition.

Serial entrepreneur Yoav Vilner calls those two problems "massive barriers" when it comes to completing sales transactions and scaling companies. A champion of sales teams, Vilner's made it his mission to smash those barriers with innovative solutions.

As a result, co-founder Danni Friedland and a team of innovators launched Walnut as an all-encompassing, streamlined sales platform.

Cracking the Shell of Uneven, Unsatisfying Sales Experiences

Walnut's brilliance lies in its simplicity for end users. The cloud-based sales platform allows sales professionals without coding experience to effortlessly create self-guided B2B buyer demos.

Every demo is guaranteed to run smoothly from start to finish because it's in a fail-free cloud environment. Plus, each demo can be individualized and customized to match a specific prospect's needs.

Why focus on improving the sales experience through demos in the first place, though? Sales demos have long been used at various points in the customer exploration process. They're especially popular with virtual selling. However, they have an uneven and sometimes embarrassing track record.

Even Bill Gates struggled to overcome the Blue Screen of Death when demoing Windows 98. His cringe-worthy video proves a point: If a tech mastermind can be sidelined by a cranky demo, any salesperson's at risk. Walnut helps remove the risk—and the chance for major embarrassment when trying to wow buyers.

Compelling Experiences Across the Prospect Journey

Walnut makes it simpler for companies to leverage dramatic, dependable demos as part of the lead generation and conversion process.

To be sure, Walnut-generated sales demos offer sales leaders and employees the chance to utilize demos at various stages. For example, demos can be added to landing pages to intrigue prospects at the beginning of their sales exploration. Demos can be emailed to buyers further down the sales funnel when intent is high. And they can become an essential part of a final sales meeting to close deals faster. That's part of their power and utility.

Aside from versatility, Walnut's unique SaaS offerings carry a unique advantage: They're designed to capture relevant data. When prospects interact with Walnut demos, their behaviors are tracked and collected. Those valuable insights can then be used by sales and marketing groups to understand customer habits—and tweak future demo iterations.

Paul St. John, formerly of GitHub, knows the value of and need for disruptive, pioneering tools like Walnut. From his perspective as a sales client, Walnut "…makes every interaction with the customer relevant the first time by allowing sales teams to show, share and optimize interactive product demos that are personalized. Customers see how the product solves their pain, how they would actually use it, and that helps the sales process go much faster."

In all businesses, sales teams are wondering how to improve their customer satisfaction ratings and land more deals. Walnut demos can serve as a proactive, fresh way to open up client conversations—and a spigot to higher conversions.

Half of the world’s emissions cuts will require tech that isn’t commercially available

Posted: 17 May 2021 10:40 PM PDT

dWeb.News Article from James Temple

If the world hopes to eliminate carbon dioxide emissions by midcentury, nearly half the cuts will have to come from technologies that are only in early stages today.

That finding, in a report from the International Energy Agency released Tuesday, points to the need for aggressive investment in research, development, and scale-up of clean energy technologies.

The IEA's road map for eliminating energy-related emissions by 2050—and offering a shot at capping global temperatures increases at 1.5 ˚C—includes substantial roles for technologies that barely exist or are far too expensive today. These include batteries packed with far more energy, clean hydrogen as a fuel or feedstock for industrial processes, liquid biofuels for aviation, and equipment that cheaply captures carbon dioxide emissions from factories and gas- or coal-fueled power plants.

The report also stresses the need for significant investments into tools for pulling carbon dioxide out of the air. Those include direct-air-capture machines, which exist but are very expensive today, and what's known as bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (or BECCS), the idea that we can use plant materials for fuel and catch any emissions they produce during combustion.

The IEA's findings feed into an ongoing debate over whether the world needs to focus on creating new technologies to combat climate change or aggressively deploying the ones we have.

US climate czar John Kerry triggered an online backlash over this issue this weekend by saying to the BBC: "I am told by scientists that 50% of the reductions we have to make to get to net zero are going to come from technologies that we don't yet have."

For its part, the IEA described them as technologies that are "currently at the demonstration or prototype phase" or "not yet commercially available."

But the report makes clear the world doesn't have a choice between innovation or deployment. It lays out a timeline showing just how fast we also need to build out the technologies we already have to meet the midcentury goals.

By 2030, the world must add more than 1,000 gigawatts of wind and solar power capacity annually, which is just shy of the total electricity system in the US today. Electric passenger vehicles need to reach 60% of new sales by 2030, while half of heavy trucks purchased must be EVs by 2035. And by 2045, half of global heat demand must be met with heat pumps, which can run on clean electricity.

In short, we need to make rapid progress, on everything, all at once.

If the world hopes to eliminate carbon dioxide emissions by midcentury, nearly half the cuts will have to come from technologies that are only in early stages today. That finding, in a report from the International Energy Agency released Tuesday, points to the need for aggressive investment in research, development, and scale-up of clean energy…Clean energy, Climate change

The dream of the modular phone will never die

Posted: 17 May 2021 07:40 PM PDT

dWeb.News Article from Chris Smith

We've seen modular phone concepts and actual modular devices for years, as there is some theoretical appeal for this type of product. It makes sense to build an eco-friendly device that has user-replaceable parts. That way, you'd be able to swap out old or broken modules for brand new hardware rather than ditching the entire device. You'd be able to upgrade the chips, the battery, and the camera every few years, and maybe even the screen. You'd also get access to more unusual modules that will deliver a specific type of functionality that isn't otherwise found on traditional phones.

But time and time again, companies failed to make modular phones popular with buyers. Phonebloks was exciting for a bit. Google's Project Ara wanted modular phones but then got out of it. LG's G5 was a quirky modular phone. Maybe Motorola was the most successful at envisioning a limited modular phone — the company's Moto Mods let it upgrade a 4G mid-range phone to 5G flagship status a few years ago, but the contraption looked just awful.

Despite that, another company thinks it can have a go at modular phones. Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has filed a patent for modular phone technology recently.

Found by LetsGoDigital, the new Xiaomi patent was filed in February 2020. As always with patented technology, there's no indication that Xiaomi will launch a modular device any time soon, but the fact that it submitted a patent last year suggests the Chinese handset vendor is interested in modular devices.

Like Motorola's mods, the Xiaomi modular smartphone is relatively simple. The handset maker has imagined phones made of three distinct parts. The top part packs the camera module and all the chips. The middle part is the largest one, being dedicated to the battery. The bottom part is the smallest, featuring the speaker assembly and charging port.

The illustrations that Jermain Smit produced for LetsGoDigital suggest that the selfie camera would be placed under the display, a feature we expect to see on several handsets this year, including Xiaomi devices.

What's peculiar about this modular contraption is that at least two of the three parts would also have a display component, which is an immediate problem, as displays feature bezels. Xiaomi's modules would connect seamlessly thanks to a rail system, and the phone would not have a visible seam. That's easier said than done and sounds like the kind of sophisticated screen tech that might increase the phone's price.

Xiaomi's illustrations suggest that swapping a module for a different one would be incredibly easy. But, again, it might be easier said than done. It's one thing to replace the battery or speaker module, and quite another to exchange the camera module for something else. That's because the camera module also contains the phone's logic board, which includes the storage and personal data. There would have to be a way to transfer data from a module to the next before swapping the top part for one with a specific camera arrangement.

Again, there's no indication that Xiaomi will pursue these modular phone designs anytime soon. But the patent proves the modular phone dream just won't die.

Researchers at the University of Adelaide have found several grape varieties native to Cyprus, which tolerate drought conditions better than some international varieties popular in Australia, contain chemical compounds responsible for flavours preferred by Australian consumers.

The study published in OENO One follows earlier research with Cypriot grape varieties Maratheftiko and Xynisteri in particular, which showed they are well adapted to a hot climate and continue to perform well as the climate becomes hotter.

Lead author and PhD student Alexander Copper, from the University of Adelaide’s School of Agriculture, Food and Wine, said: “With climate change placing greater strain on the resources needed to sustain viticulture, it is necessary for the global wine industry to investigate alternative grape varieties better suited to hotter climates.

“While the ability to tolerate hotter climates is critical for any alternative varieties considered, they also need to deliver on taste,” Mr Copper said.

In the new study, researchers looked at the role of polyfunctional thiols, which are aroma impact compounds generally known for their contribution to the ‘tropical’ aroma and flavour of Sauvignon blanc and, more recently, in Chardonnay. The study investigated five such thiols in Cypriot wines comprising the white variety Xynisteri, and two red varieties, Maratheftiko and Giannoudhi, comparing them to Australian Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Shiraz wines.

Researchers found that each white wine contained compounds responsible for ‘grapefruit’, ‘tropical fruit’ and ‘passionfruit’ aromas at well above their sensory threshold, whereas compounds associated with ‘struck flint’ and ‘meaty’ characters were much lower in concentration. A compound responsible for aromas likened to ‘roasted coffee’ was only detected in the Chardonnay and four of the Xynisteri wines. A final thiol, with aroma attributes of ‘blackcurrant’ and ‘boxwood’ was only detected in Pinot Gris and three Xynisteri wines.

Overall, researchers found the concentration of flavour compounds in the Cypriot wines was comparable to those in popular Australian wines such as Chardonnay and Sauvignon blanc.

Corresponding author Dr Dimitra Capone, an ARC Research Associate with the ARC Training Centre for Innovative Wine Production at the University of Adelaide, has more than 25 years experience in the area of aroma and flavour chemistry.

Mr Copper added: “In better understanding the thiol composition of Cypriot varieties, producers can better tailor their products to consumer preferences in a changing climate.”

The presence of flavour compounds enjoyed by consumers in the Cypriot wines aligns with the findings of the earlier consumer sensory project conducted by the researchers.

“The panel of wine experts in the sensory study identified flavours upon tasting Xynisteri wines that were comparable to Pinot Gris, which aligns with what we found when analysing the compounds present in both Pinot Gris and several varieties of Xynisteri,” said Mr Copper.

“In consumer trials, consumers ‘liked’ the flavour of the Cypriot varieties, and in one segment of consumers, Xynisteri was preferred to Pinot Gris.”

Since bringing the Cypriot vines to Australia for research at the University’s Waite campus, Mr Copper said they have been approached by several grape growers interested in the varieties, particularly Xynisteri. In recent weeks the project has had discussions with renowned South Australian viticulturist Paul Georgiadis and the project will begin its first vineyard trials at Paulmara Wines in the Barossa Valley later this year.

“This latest research adds further support for considering Cypriot varieties for use in Australia and other hot wine growing regions,” he said.

Mr Copper’s PhD project is supported by an Adelaide Graduate Research Scholarship and a supplementary scholarship from Wine Australia.

WATCH VIDEO: NASA launches rocket in search of aurora answers

THE NASA BLACK BRANT XII ROCKET LIFTS OFF WITH THE KINET-X EXPERIMENT AT WALLOPS FLIGHT FACILITY IN VIRGINIA, ON SUNDAY, MAY 16, 2021. CREDIT: NASA WALLOPS/TERRY ZAPERACH

NASA launched one of its largest sounding rockets Sunday from an East Coast facility in an experiment led by a University of Alaska Fairbanks Geophysical Institute space physics professor.

The four-stage Black Brant XII rocket carrying the KiNET-X experiment of principal investigator Peter Delamere lifted off from NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia at 8:44 p.m. Eastern time. The ascent of the rocket, which flew on an arc into the ionosphere before beginning its planned descent over the Atlantic Ocean near Bermuda, could be seen along the East Coast.

The experiment seeks to understand how a large mass of plasma such as the solar wind interacts at the particle level with, for example, the plasma of Earth’s space environment.

The interaction between the solar wind and a planet’s magnetosphere appears as the aurora, whether here on Earth or on another planet that has a magnetic field and a substantial atmosphere. Physicists have long been trying to understand how the interaction works.

The rocket released two canisters of barium thermite, which were then detonated — one at about 249 miles high and one 90 seconds later on the downward trajectory at about 186 miles, near Bermuda in the North Atlantic Ocean. The detonations produced purple and green clouds.

The barium, once dispersed from the canisters, turned into a plasma when it became ionized by the sunlight. The barium plasma clouds, which generated their own electromagnetic fields and waves, then interacted with the existing plasma of the ionosphere.

The experiment’s science team has already begun analyzing the data from that interaction.

24-7Pressrelease – Effective press release distribution with results

The launch came on the final day of the 10-day launch window. Previous days had been plagued by bad weather at NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility and in Bermuda, unacceptably high winds at upper elevations, and an incident in which the rocket “came in contact with a launcher support during launch preparations,” according to NASA.

The experiment included three other Geophysical Institute space and plasma scientists: Project co-investigator Don Hampton, a Geophysical Institute research associate professor, was in Bermuda for ground observations; Geophysical Institute researchers Mark Conde, a space physics professor, and Antonius Otto, an emeritus professor of plasma physics, monitored the experiment from Fairbanks.

Two UAF students pursuing Ph.Ds at the Geophysical Institute also participated. Matthew Blandin supported optical operations at Wallops Flight Facility, and Kylee Branning was at Langley Air Research Center operating cameras on a NASA Gulfstream III monitoring the experiment.

The experiment also included researchers and equipment from Dartmouth University, University of New Hampshire, Clemson University, University of Maryland and NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center.

Preparation began in 2018, when NASA approved the project.

Why Most New Entrepreneurs Aren’t Successful With SEO

Posted: 17 May 2021 05:39 PM PDT

dWeb.News Article from Nate Nead

If you're in touch with the marketing world at all, you know about the value of search engine optimization (SEO). A favorite strategy of tech startup entrepreneurs and big business corporate marketers alike, SEO is a highly cost-efficient strategy that can help you dominate the digital landscape – or so people say.

In reality, if you talk to a variety of business owners and read stories online, you'll find opinions on SEO that vary. Some people swear it's the strategy that keeps their business afloat, while others insist it was a total wash.

Disproportionately, new entrepreneurs seem to struggle with SEO – but why is that the case, if SEO is so valuable?

A Primer on SEO

We'll start with a short lesson on SEO, in case you aren't familiar. SEO is all about optimizing your website, both with onsite and offsite changes, to increase its rankings in search engine results pages (SERPs). In other words, when your customers run online searches for brands like yours, your company will be listed higher in the subsequent results.

This is accomplished through strategies like onsite content development, technical website optimization (including backend coding tweaks), and offsite link building. Collectively, these help you optimize your site for specific target keywords and phrases – while also boosting your "authority," or perceived trustworthiness, so you rise above the competition.

It takes months to years for an SEO strategy to truly take off – if you're doing things right.

So are all these entrepreneurs doing SEO "wrong?" Or is there something limiting about this marketing strategy?

The Most Effective Marketing Strategy… But Wait!

By my estimation, SEO is arguably the most "effective" marketing strategy in the world. I put "effective" in quotes because different people want to optimize their strategies for different goals. SEO does have weaknesses, including its long-term time horizon and sensitivity to competitive issues, so it's not a perfect strategy for every business.

However, there are usually workarounds for the biggest weaknesses in SEO. And if you come at it with the right combination of strategies, you can make it extremely cost-efficient – with an eventual return on investment (ROI) higher than almost any other digital marketing strategy.

The big issue is usually a lack of understanding about the strengths and weaknesses of SEO – a lack of understanding of how the strategy works, or an unwillingness to accommodate its needs.

Let's look at how this problem manifests more specifically.

The Budget Problem

One of the biggest issues faced by new entrepreneurs is what I'll call the "budget problem." It's definitely possible to spend too much money on SEO. If you overpay for an agency that isn't doing its share of the heavy lifting, or if you invest in the wrong assets, it's possible to overspend and wreck whatever chances you had at getting a positive ROI.

However, it's more common for entrepreneurs to be low on cash. They want to practice SEO as cheaply as possible; this isn't necessarily a bad thing in and of itself, but it can lead to corner cutting that ultimately jeopardizes your effectiveness.

For example, let's say you pay a small rate for the cheapest content creators you can find; you'll end up with shoddy, rushed content that ultimately hurts your brand reputation rather than helping it. It's much better to invest in high-quality content. Let's say you keep your link building at a small, local scale; you'll have a hard time building the momentum you need to contend with your top competitors.

It's a catch-22 for many new business owners. You need to invest significantly in SEO to see decent results, but you may not have the money to do it in the early days of your business's development.

The Black Hat Temptation

SEO tactics can be broadly categorized into "white hat" and "black hat" subsets. White hat tactics are those that are purely ethical and in line with Google's terms of service. These include things like writing high-quality content, distributing that content, and collaborating with other influencers.

There are also black hat tactics, which break ethical guidelines and put your website on the chopping block for a Google penalty. For example, spamming links, utilizing link schemes, and churning out keyword-stuffed content at scale are all considered black hat.

In the middle, we have gray hat techniques that are debatable in terms of ethical and regulatory status.

Generally speaking, if you practice black hat tactics long enough, you're going to be penalized. Your site will plummet in rankings, and in extreme cases, you could be delisted from Google entirely. But here's the thing; some black hat tactics can lead to short-term gains. This makes them extremely tempting for entrepreneurs trying to jump the gun and rush their SEO progress.

Accordingly, many entrepreneurs fall into this trap, rushing into black hat tactics, and eventually compromising the integrity of their site.

The Timeline Problem

Remember, SEO is a long-term strategy. You can automate parts of it, invest more heavily to speed things up, and take occasional shortcuts to scale faster – but you're still going to end up spending months of effort to get the results you want.

For some entrepreneurs, this is a reason to never touch SEO in the first place. They simply avoid it, favoring short-term strategies to boost their brand visibility. For others, impatience sets in; they spend a couple of months optimizing for search engines, then bail when they don't see incredible results.

Both these entrepreneurs end up missing out on the incredible long-term potential of SEO. Its ROI only ramps up after several months of consistent effort.

The Hubris Problem

SEO is low hanging fruit in some ways. In just a few hours, you can learn the basics of the strategy. And if you spend a few hours a week reading free content on the internet, you can probably become adept at it. However, some entrepreneurs take this to mean that they can become a self-sufficient SEO expert in a matter of weeks.

Trying to learn everything and do everything by yourself is a disaster waiting to happen. There are too many things that can go wrong, too many areas to specialize in, and too many volatile changes for a single person (or a small team) to reasonably keep up with. That's why most successful entrepreneurs end up hiring an SEO agency or outsourcing at least some of their work.

The Competition Problem

Some entrepreneurs run into a major problem with competition. SERPs are a finite resource; there's a limited number of keywords and phrases your target audience will search for, and each of those SERPs has only 10 slots on the first page. If you want to get any value from your strategy, you need to shoot for the top 3 positions. So what happens if your top 3 competitors are already ranking?

Competition for limited "Top 10" real estate online continues to grow. The number of registered domains over time helps illustrate this. Source.

This is a dilemma even for experienced optimizers. One option is to brute force your way through with a bigger budget and better content – but this conflicts with the "budget problem." Alternatively, you can differentiate your brand with new and different keyword targets or a slightly different target audience.

The Priority Problem

Additionally, most entrepreneurs are juggling multiple priorities simultaneously. When you're working on a superior product design, a pitch for new investors, and a dozen new hires simultaneously, it's natural for your marketing strategy to take a backseat – especially when it's costing you a lot of money. Because of this, many new SEO strategies end up half-baked, leading to inferior results – which makes entrepreneurs feel like there's something wrong with SEO itself.

Overcoming the Challenges

All of these challenges can be overcome. In fact, most of them can be overcome just by doing your research and understanding them better. As long as you're willing to do your homework, analyze your efforts, and adapt to new circumstances, SEO has the potential to pay off.

Amazon rebrands Amazon Go Grocery to Amazon Fresh, closes Seattle-area store near Microsoft HQ

Posted: 17 May 2021 05:39 PM PDT

dWeb.News Article from Taylor Soper

The news: Amazon is renaming its Amazon Go Grocery brand to "Amazon Fresh" and closing its Amazon Go Grocery store in Redmond, Wash., near Microsoft's headquarters, GeekWire has learned. The other Amazon Go Grocery store in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood will remain open and be called "Amazon Fresh."

Why it matters: Amazon made it a little confusing to track its various new grocery options — Amazon Go, Amazon Go Grocery, Amazon Fresh grocery stores, Amazon Fresh delivery, Whole Foods delivery, Prime Now delivery, etc. This simplifies the array of offerings a bit.

Amazon Go Grocery launched in February 2020 as a larger version of the company's cashierless Amazon Go convenience stores. The Redmond location opened in September with a new hot food section.

Amazon in the meantime has been rolling out full-size Amazon Fresh grocery stores that feature smart grocery carts and Amazon Echo devices that help shoppers navigate aisles. The company next month will transition employees from the Redmond Amazon Go Grocery location to the new Amazon Fresh store opening in the Factoria neighborhood in Bellevue, Wash .— one of two Amazon Fresh locations in the Seattle area.

The concept of Amazon Go Grocery — larger than Amazon Go, with cashierless tech — will live on. The rebranded Capitol Hill location is described as a smaller format of Amazon Fresh. The larger format Amazon Fresh stores do not have the cashierless tech and still offer traditional checkout lines.

What's next? Amazon is growing out its Amazon Fresh grocery store footprint and continues opening more Amazon Go stores. The other Amazon Fresh store set to open in the Seattle region will be at Jackson Street in the Central District. Another could be opening at a former New Seasons Market location in Ballard.

The other Amazon Go Grocery store in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood will remain open and be called "Amazon Fresh." Why it matters: Amazon made it a little confusing to track its various new grocery options — Amazon Go, Amazon Go Grocery, Amazon Fresh grocery stores, Amazon Fresh delivery, Whole Foods delivery, Prime Now delivery, etc. This simplifies the array of offerings a bit. Vaccination Bribe or Creative Marketing? Ohio’s Vax-a-Million Causes Intense Reaction on Twitter

dWeb.News Article from Daniel Webster

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced he’s giving away $1 Million in a Vax-a-Million incentive to encourage Ohio residents to get vaccinated for COVID-19. It’s sort of a vaccination lottery scheme for the state. Twitter users, of course, are going off about the odd lottery incentive for vaccinations.

“I am beyond disappointed in Ohio for the waste and abuse of these funds. We need new leadership,” tweeted Jarrett Skrobarcek (@Skrobes).

“Well..what do you expect. The guinea pigs are loving the chance at being a million dollars richer. Nice bribe, mind you. Kudos to whoever thought that one up,” responded Draconius @Dracoshooter

“There are over 11 million people in Ohio…..and giving money to 5 people is an incentive?” stated gail rosewater @GRosewater

Exactly! This is seriously wrong to spend funds like this. It really is,” said Co-T@CoT1882.

Carlos Estrada @MrVigilanteBTC replied “Because your "bribing" them with millions of tax payer money with a raffle? That could go into helping poverty? This isn't even a stance on the vaccine. But this is a huge misappropriation of funds. As always, the government is the worst capital allocator.”

It’s not bribing, especially since getting the vaccine doesn’t guarantee payment. It’s simply an incentive to motivate people to get their vaccine scheduled for those who may be putting it for mundane reasons like forgetfulness or typical procrastination,” tweeted Rebecca Joy@rebelhjoy.

Everybody Hates Chris@MyWorldMyWay22
was simple “Bribery is illegal.”

Adam Miller@AdamTMiller1708 cleared everything up with “Please note the definition of a bribe: “What Is a Bribe? A bribe is an illegal act involving the exchange of something of value, such as money, with the purpose of influencing the behavior of public officials.” No public official=Not a bribe.”

You sound like a carnival barker,” said Beth Han@bethhan23

Report: Amazon may be looking to buy longtime Hollywood film and TV studio MGM

Amazon's desire to be an even bigger player in Hollywood could involve the acquisition of MGM, according to an exclusive report by The Information on Monday.

The report cites a person familiar with ongoing discussions between the tech giant and the historic film and television studio, but says the status of any deal is unclear.

Amazon has already established itself as a significant entertainment force with content it creates and acquires through Amazon Studios and that it broadcasts via its Prime Video streaming service. Metro Goldwyn Mayer would bring with it a major film library, which includes the James Bond franchise, as well as television shows such as "The Handmaid's Tale" and "Fargo," and reality shows such as "Shark Tank" and "Survivor," The Information said.

The report put the cost of a potential deal at between $7 billion and $10 billion.

Forbes reported earlier this year that Amazon was "kicking the tires" on what the magazine called a deal for the "faded Golden-Age studio."

The Information noted that the potential news of an acquisition for the tech giant comes just days after it was reported that longtime exec Jeff Blackburn is returning to the company to lead a new "Global Media & Entertainment" organization that will include Prime Video and Amazon Studios, Music, Podcasts/Wondery, Audible, Games, and Twitch.

MGM and Amazon Web Services signed a cloud computing agreement in December to move the studio's content and distribution efforts to the cloud and to help the studio develop "new business models" and "new revenue opportunities," The Hollywood Reporter previously reported.
